Notes from Yukiko’s Desk
Dear AGAC family,
Last Sunday, we celebrated the joy and wonder of the Resurrection — the empty tomb, the risen Lord, and the hope that changes everything. This Sunday, on the Second Sunday of Easter, we are reminded that the Easter story is not just a moment in history; it is a journey we walk together, day by day. Now begins the second half of the great 100 days of Lent/Easter. The Church celebrates the Easter season (also known as “Eastertide”) for 50 days.
A number of liturgical changes during the season of Easter Colour: Our Lenten purple and holy week red are replaced by Easter white and gold, the colours of joy and resurrection.
Candles: We add the tall Paschal Candle next to the altar in Easter. Paschal means “Passover.” We believe Jesus “passed over” from death to life. The Paschal Candle is lit and prominently placed next to the altar to convey in sign and symbol a central theme of Easter–the unconquered light of Christ.
Liturgical language: In Lent, we do not use the word “Alleluia” which means “God be praised!” This word returns in Easter. Throughout the season of Easter our services at Holy Cross start with an acclamation of the resurrection in many voices and languages. Anyone who knows a language other than English is invited to call out in that language “Christ is risen!”
Readings: Throughout the year, the first reading comes from Hebrew Scriptures. During Easter is the first reading from the Second Sunday of Easter 12 04 2026 Year A New Testament, the Book of Acts. Acts shares the story of Jesus’ followers in the days, weeks and months after Jesus’ death.
Dismissal: From Easter Day through the Day of Pentecost,
“Alleluia! Alleluia!” is added to the dismissal and to the people’s response.
As we continue in this Easter season, may we remember: the risen Christ is not far away. He is here, walking beside us, guiding our steps, and sending us out to be His witnesses in the world.
The Peace of the Risen Christ be with you.
Yukiko
