Notes from Yukiko’s Desk

Dear friends of Christ,

Welcome to Ordinary Time! The first Sunday in Ordinary Time was actually Trinity Sunday. It came immediately after Pentecost, which is fitting, because Pentecost completes the revelation of the Trinity in salvation history. It is also called Trinity Season (or Trinity-tide).

When we hear the phrase “Ordinary Time,” we might think nothing special is happening. And in one sense, we are right; there aren’t nearly as many major feasts, and for those who love the feasts, this can seem like a long run of boring season! And yet, there is another way to look at it. A season without many special occasions is also a season without many distractions. It is a season for developing good rhythms for spiritual life. Because there is less focus on what God has done in the past, there is time to focus on our relationship with God in the present. I came across the following quote:

God is calling you to serve him in and from the ordinary…There is something holy, something divine hidden in the most ordinary situations, and it is up to each one of you to discover it.

St. Josemaría Escrivá

Let’s step into this season with eyes, hearts and minds open to God and the Triune fullness of God who can accompany us in everything we do.

Arohanui,

Yukiko
