Notes from Yukiko’s Desk

Dear AGAC wganau,

Mānawatia a Matariki!

As Matariki and Puanga rise in the winter dawn sky, people across Aotearoa mark the Māori New Year. This season invites us to remember those who have gone before us, give thanks for the blessings of today, and look forward with hope to the year ahead.

At Holy Cross, there will be an opportunity to honour those who have gone before us during the communion. Before/after receiving your communion, you can light a candle for your loved ones who have died.

This Sunday, we have another important theme. Churches across the NZ and around the world are being invited to take part in Sea Sunday, a Global Day of Prayer, reflection and action for the 1.9 million seafarers who keep our world moving by sea. As some of you may know, my husband, Cheen, had served as a Chaplain to the Mission to Seafarers. Cheen will preside and share his reflection at Holy Cross. It will be a great opportunity to hear his journey with seafarers.

Just letting you know that I will go to Japan to take care of my parents from 20th July to 2 Aug. During my absence, Bruce, Les and Cheen will be available for any pastoral care matters. I will be available until 19th July.

Nga mihi nui,

Yukiko
