Notes from Yukiko’s Desk
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ on Earth,
Welcome to the Season of Creation! In the words of Sarah Mullally, the Archbishop of Canterbury, “In the Season of Creation, we turn again to Christ, through whom all things were made and in whom all things hold together.”
The global theme this year is based around "Living Water" –water which sustains life (Ezekiel 47:9-12). We will look at this theme more closely in week 3. During this season, we are encouraged to:
- Pray for the care of creation and for communities facing environmental challenges.
- Learn about the importance of water, ecological justice, and our Christian calling to be stewards of God’s creation.
- Take action through sustainable lifestyle choices, water conservation, community clean-ups, or environmental initiatives.
This Sunday, the Season will kick off with an ecumenical ‘Feast of Creation in Christ’ which was officially added to our Lectionary this year. During worship, I would like to introduce the "Via Creationis", also known as "The Way of Creation." It is a communal prayer that blends the mystery of Genesis with reflection. It is an invitation to encounter God as Creator and Redeemer and to rediscover creation not simply as something God made long ago, but as a gift continually held in God’s love.
May this Season of Creation help us to deepen our faith, renew our relationship with God’s creation, and become channels of
God’s living water in a thirsty world.
Yukiko
